Project - 63rd Street Station/Lexington Avenue Station Reconstruction, Second Avenue Subway

This project involves station reconstruction including rehabilitation and construction of entrances of the New Second Avenue Subway 63rd St./Lexington Avenue Station, Borough of Manhattan. The work under this project included but was not limited to: the construction of new station entrances to allow access from 3rd Avenue; construction of new ancillaries and open vent structures to street entrances; modification of existing interior station structure at 3rd Avenue to connect new entrances to platforms; utility installation and relocation; construction of interior walls and rooms and installation of architectural finishes and station elements; demolition and removal of existing station ventilation system; installation of a new and emergency station mechanical HVAC system that includes tunnel ventilation.

Service Provided:

  • Pre-construction building condition survey for 24 buildings.
  • Responsible for Geotechnical and Structural Instrumentation and Monitoring.
  • Installation and presentation of real time data in website using remote monitoring system for:
    • 2 Observation wells
    • 128 Deformation Monitoring Prisms
    • 5-Automated Motorized Total Station
    • 52 Deformation Monitoring Points for Paved, Unpaved Areas and Utilities
    • 73 Tilt Sensors (Horizontal and Vertical)
    • 26 Vertical Deformation Monitoring Points for Interior Structural Elements
    • 35 Crack Gauges
    • 6 Vibration Monitoring Devices
  • Exploratory borings for micropile construction in the basement of the existing buildings.
